Rutland Lions decided they would support the colourful Oakham in Bloom team in this year's competition, which is also being filmed by no less than the BBC for a future documentary about Britain in Bloom. Lion Charles Robertshaw procured three old wheelbarrows, painted them to match our large storage containers, and with the help of one or two other members planted them in readiness for the judgment day. Although still pretty colourful, they did have to survive a vicious hail storm less than a week before judging but were ceremoniously wheeled into place outside Oakham Castle the morning of 1. July. Although originally intended as a fundraiser, it was run as a community service event, allowing us to prove that the concept works. It worked not only with a smart phone as intended, but for those using the O2 network, it worked just as well with pencil and paper. When one lady was asked which network she was using, she replied, . Thank you to everyone who came along and entered the hunt, and sorry to the last few families that arrived after we had run out of chocolate mini- eggs. E District Convention Saturday 1. March 2. 01. 7: After the grandeur of Belvoir Castle in 2. MD1. 05. E District Convention 2. Butlins Holiday Camp in Skegness. Attending on behalf of The Lions Club of Rutland were President Mike Crosland, Secretary Keith Primarolo and Lion Allan Grey. Lion Allan was attending District Convention for the third year in a row, is this a club record? The Convention was chaired by District Governor Balvinder Sokhi, with key guests Past International Director A P Singh, and Past International Director Sangeeta Jatia, giving the convention a distinctly Indian flavour. On Wednesday, during an off the record chat aboard Air Force One, Trump used his revival of the Dakota Access and Keystone XL pipelines as an example of how he’s. PID Sangeeta spoke passionately about the role of women in Lions, and told convention that many women are ready for leadership giving their innate ability to multi- task, complimented by their emotional strength. PID AP, as he likes to be called, challenged everyone to continue to develop the brand and make it more relevant to younger people in today's technologically dominated world. He cited the incredibly popular IPL 2. India, still cricket, but a completely different product from the original Five Day brand, conceived not by a cricketer, but by a businessman, Kerry Packer. His message was that we need to look outside ourselves as well as within, to shape the future. Re- districting featured large on the agenda, and convention voted by 6. MD1. 05. E and MD1.
C merge, and to put this proposal before MD1. Convention in Blackpool. This proposal is seen as significantly better than that proposed by the Council of Governors, which was defeated at MD1. Convention. After that it becomes quite byzantine, and beyond mere mortals to comprehend.
